When you think of faithfulness, you may think of a loyal friend, cheering on your sports team even when they are losing, or of a couple who has been married for forty years. These examples involve imperfect humans, but we have a perfect example of faithfulness from God. God is eternally reliable, steadfast, and unwavering because faithfulness is one of His permanent attributes. God does not have to work at being faithful; He is faithful.
In Matthew 25, Jesus gives a parable about two servants who faithfully doubled the currency they were given, but another servant hid away his portion rather than stewarding it well. We can faithfully serve God by giving up our time, finances, or gifts. Faithfulness to God comes from understanding His heart and love for us, which we see most clearly through Jesus. Colossians 1:19–20 says, “For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”
Application: How has God been faithful to you and how are you faithfully serving Him with what you have been given?
